Already as a child I had this intense kind of connection with plants which I still have based on my house plants but I managed to bring this interest for greens on a professional level at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern. With diligence and a lot of passion I reached a personal milestone in 2019 by earning a phd degree. Since late 2019 I'm a postdoc at the University of Applied Sciences Kaiserslautern at the department Integrative Biotechnology where I can continue my research on cyanobacteria, green algae, lichens and fungi.

 

During my studies I worked on cyanobacteria, green algae and lichens from the most extreme environment on our planet - both poles and the Atacama Desert. I travelled to the Atacama Desert several times driven by the question how these microorganisms can influence ecosystems from their micro habitat to the landscape scale. Since that time I have developed several methods to elucidate their hidden species richness and beauty, including molecular approaches, several microscopic techniques as well as ecophysiological measurements and bio-weathering experiments.
